Submerge with Buceo Mojacar

THE BUCEO MOJACAR SCHOOL OF DIVING DIVING is situated in one of the most ideal places on the Spanish coast for the practice of diving. The weather is good all year round and the warm sea is the cleanest in Spain.

Besides being pioneers in this area, we have been diving in the waters in the north of Almeria every day since 1996, so we know these waters better than anyone.

The strategic location of The BUCEO MOJACAR SCHOOL OF DIVING allows us to arrange dives, not only in the 'Reserva Subaquatica del Cabo de Gata y Carboneras’, but also on the Mojacar coast and in the Sierra de Villaricos. This allows us a wide coverage for large numbers of divers with our rapid launches at every point of diving in the north of Almeria, Andalusia.

Now we shall go into detail for some of the best dives that we do.

SAINT ANDREW´S ARCH

One of the best dives from the Isle of San Andrés (Carboneras) where the northern part of the Natural Park of the Cabo de Gata starts. Una de las inmersiones estrella de la Isla de San Andrés (Carboneras) donde comienza la parte norte del Parque Natural del Cabo de gata;
We will begin the dive on a rocky bottom, which is at a depth of 5 to 6 metres. From here we will continue our way down, passing vertical walls full of colour, to an area of sand (16 m depth) that will allow us to go through a large natural stone arch to a tongue of sand that will take us further down to a maximum depth of 31metres. Here we will find big conger eels along with morays, octopus, grouper, cod and many more....
Recommended skill level: - Medium to High

THE ENGINE

Here we can see a wreck - the engine of an English bomber plane from the Second World War. This bomber plane was flying from England to its base in Malta via our international waters when it went down and was reported missing. Apparently, it fell into the sea in the area of the Algarrobico where, not long ago, a fishing boat unknowingly dragged it to the Isle de San Andrés, where we can visit it today on the muddy bottom at a depth of 27 metres.
The engine shows us all its beauty. Its enormous size and dimension are very impressive. Conger eels and morays are always found hidden in its interior, along with cod, groupers, zebra sea bream and many more. Often we can also see Moonfish.
The dive has different routes depending on the level of the group, but in all of them, you can enjoy the typical beauty and wealth of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata and its clear waters.
Recommended skill level: Medium to High

THE TOP OF THE DEAD MEN

In the heart of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, we can enjoy a shallow dive of 12metres where we will enjoy the transparency of the water and be able to view the spectacular seabed.. It is on this dive that we will be able to access a small cave with an air chamber and where we will be able to breath normally, without our breathing apparatus. Even though we are still near the coast and in relatively shallow water, it is possible that there will be some strong undercurrents here. At certain times of the year, thousands of thick-lipped grey mullet can be observed waiting to mate. It’s another impressive show that can be seen in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.
Recommended skill level: High

FOUR NAILS

This is a dive for beginners. It takes place from a beach in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata. We will dive to a depth where we will find clear waters and where tranquillity reigns in this beautiful underwater world. During this dive, we will be able to see the archaeological remains of cannons from the 17th century and encrusted cannon balls. Normally the conditions are such that we will be able to take underwater photography or do some night diving.
Recommended skill level: Low

THE AQUARIUM I

It's called that owing to the quantity of sealife that we can see during this dive. At the start of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, we have the opportunity to enjoy a place remarkable for it’s light and the clarity of the water. Together with its pretty landscape of vegetation and its numerous species of animals and plants, which make this dive one of the nicest for all skill levels. It is undoubtedly a dive that you will want to repeat. In addition, during this dive, we will be able to see an example of Neptune grass (a species in danger of extinction).
Recommended skill level: All levels

THE AQUARIUM II

Another dive abundant with the sealife that we will almost always see with the cleanest of water we have in this part of Spain. We begin this dive on a channel of sand departing from the Isle of San Andrés towards the North, at a depth of from 12 to 20 metres. Two banks of Neptune grass protect the channel, as they billow down towards it, protecting us from possible undercurrents. Suddenly a great step gives way to an area of countless rocks that offer cover to big shoals of two banded sea bream, groupers, morays, and conger eels. There can be seen lobsters, spider crabs and a lot of crustaceans if you take this dive slowly. In addition, we can see an enormous anchor before starting the return to the ship. Sometimes barracudas stalk the shoals of anchovies.
Recommended skill level: Medium

THE SKITTLES - (CREVICES)

In the north part of the Isle de S. Andrés (Carboneras), there is a beautiful slope of Neptune grass which is found between the large rock crevices that go down to a depth of 16metres. Between the crevices are long sandy channels, which serve as a refuge for the schools of zebra sea bream and two banded sea bream from the divers. There are a multitude of cracks that hide moray eels, conger eels and groupers, as well as cod. It is also normal to see octopus and sea slugs. Undoubtedly this is a dive not to be missed.
Recommended skill level: All levels

SAINT ANDREW’S GARDEN

This is an impressive garden of Neptune grass which is found at a depth of between 6-10 metres, where we will be able to see red scorpion fish, damsels, small zebra sea bream, grouper, shoals of anchovy, rabbit fish, small octopus, some trumpet fish and sometimes we see cormorants fishing. It is an ideal place for night dives where we will be able to see sand eels, cuttlefish as well as moray eels. It’s also ideal as your first dive of the summer, as part of a diving course or as a refresher course.
Recommended skill level: .All levels

SAINT PETER

Sailing towards the south in the Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata, we have a nice dive. Where, besides the clarity of the water and the light currents, we will take the opportunity to see some species of fish that will leave an unforgettable memory, as you see, moon fish, tunas, rays and often dolphins (they have been seen always near the surface).
Recommended skill level: High.

BLAS's STONE

Another dive in the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata Níjar, opposite to Agua Amarga's coast.
Buceo Mojacar will take you to a rock of 24 metres depth that it has the shape of an island with a great meadow of Neptune grass, in which almost all the predators shelter. We find a lot of big morays and conger eels, as well as big groupers and cod. Sometimes fish moon approach to snoop and to be cleaned and become the central character of the dive.
Recommended skill level: Medium to High

THE CANYON - THE WALL

We will dive down a hillside of Neptune grass that falls14 metres, and we go on down passing through a very nice submarine canyon, where we will see thick-lipped grey mullet, saddled sea bream, gilt-head sea bream and Barracudas to watch of shoals of anchovy giving an impressive spectacle. Later a great crack with groupers, two banded sea bream, rainbow wrasse and in the darkest areas, the black- tailed wrasse. Finally a great wall that falls to 27 metres, it is full of multicolored sponges and it is undoubtedly another of our really spectacular dives.
Recommended skill level: High.

THE CATHEDRAL

This is possibly our best dive, in one of the nicest of the Andalusian coastal areas.
Two miles from the coast, in the middle of the blue sea, at 32 metres depth we have a hollow mountain, in its interior in the shape of The Dome of the Virgin ("The Virgin of Victoria ") that’s why we call it The Cathedral. From the interior of the cave can be seen multiple exits, in each of them, we will be able to see a different shade of blue, it’s very impressive. The interior of the dome shelters lobster, crab and wrasse, as well as small red scorpion fish. When we go out we can see as well the zebra sea bream, gilt-head sea bream, groupers, and in the cracks, Morays and Conger eels.
Recommended skill level: High.

THE HERMITAGE

Another diving spot in la Sierra de Villaricos; very near the cathedral and sharing the same geology, is another hollowed out mountain beneath the sea that allows us to revel in the "grand bleu" to a depth of 35 metres. In the pelagic zones, sometimes one can observe tuna, which come in close, as we stop for a safety check. Zebra sea bream, gilt-head sea bream, groupers, morays and conger eels will also make this an unforgettable dive.
Recommended skill level: High.

THE PAYO SLAB

Another impressive dive in la Sierra de Villaricos, also located in the middle of the ocean and very far from the coast. On diving into the Payo Slab, we swim inside a chain of mountains whose summit is between 6 and 10metres from the surface and whose maximum depth are 33 metres. In this dive we are able to choose between different excursions according to our individual diving experience and our choice of scenery, you won't fail to be impressed. Whilst strong currents may be encountered, the depths that we will explore and the quantity of life that we will see will offset this. If we are lucky, we will see rays, moonfish and barracuda hunting anchovies as well as zebra sea bream, octopus, conger eels, groupers and many more..
Recommended skill level: Medium to High.

THE SHIPWRECK

This is a 15 metre long fishing vessel, which ran aground in the la Sierra de Villaricos area and is located between some mountains, which offer it protection from storms. The depth of this dive is between 25 and 30 metres giving a splendid view of the wreck. Several different excursions are available for this dive among the distinct mountains, which range from 15 to 30metres in height. Here and in the wreck, we will find octopus, morays, lobster, conger eels and, with a little luck, barracuda or moonfish. In addition, the different types of sea slugs and crustaceans will make this dive a pleasure for the underwater photographer.
Recommended skill level: Medium to High.
